Front-End Alignment VS 4-Wheel Alignment: What’s the Difference

Front-End Alignment VS 4-Wheel Alignment: What’s the Difference?

When driving on the road, you will be clashing the steering wheel because it looks like your car wants to move left or right. Is this sound familiar to you? If so, it may be time for an alignment.

If you get an alignment, you are secure for a safe and smooth ride and this will lead to enhancing the life of your tire. Another benefit of wheel alignment includes securing maximum running capacity and using less energy.

What is the difference between a front-end alignment and a 4-wheel alignment? You might be shocked to know that there is not much distinction.

Front-End Alignment

A front-end alignment is also known as a 2-wheel alignment, which means the mechanic will only align the front wheel. Typically, this may include toe, camber, and caster alignment. Although this is the easiest alignment, this service is not suggested for modern vehicles as it does not include rear-wheel angles.

Along with the front-end alignment, the mechanic may also need to perform what is called a “thrust angle adjustment”. In general, this is a method that enables the mechanic to determine that each of the four wheels is “square” with each other.

4-Wheel Alignment

4-wheel alignment is usually done on vehicles with only a four-wheeled suspension system. The mechanic will adjust all four wheels however; the adjustment varies from front to rear. On the rear wheels, adjustment includes the toe and camber.
